Some images tattooed on the figure come from the iconography of the mexican drug cartels and the storytelling connected with the Santa Muerte in the north of Mexico, between Sinaloa and Baja California. This holy virgin infact is intended as symbol and guardian of life and death and for this reason her image underlines the temporariness of the material things in our life.
Taking inspiration from another masterpiece of Antonello Da Messina, our artist here has imagined “Guerrilla style Holy Virgin”, in a close allegory with the Mexican Santa Muerte. The weapon that the virgin has in her hands is meant as a symbol of the eternal fight to preserve and defend the noble ideals that the sacred icon contains in itself, pureness, honesty, braveness, like an amazon voted to battle against the corrupted status quo we live in which aims only to squeeze the weakest in order to maintain the privileges of few evil and immoral people.
